FAQ
The questions everyone asks
I already have an accountant. How hard is switching?
Easy, and we do it for you. You sign one authority letter, we request professional clearance and your records from your current accountant, and we register as your agent with HMRC. Switches usually complete inside two weeks once your old accountant responds, and you never have an awkward conversation.
What exactly is not included in my package?
Each package lists what it covers. Anything outside that list, catch up work on messy prior years, HMRC enquiry support, one off advisory projects, is quoted separately before any work starts. You will never get a surprise invoice.
Why is there a Compliance package below Bronze?
Some directors genuinely enjoy doing their own books in Xero and only need the year end done properly. Compliance is for them. If your bookkeeping arrives in a carrier bag, Bronze or Silver will suit you better and we will say so honestly.
Why does the price depend on my turnover?
Because the work does. A £900k business has more transactions, more VAT complexity and more payroll than a £150k one, and a flat price would mean small companies subsidising big ones. We check turnover at onboarding and at each year end, and if you cross a band we tell you before anything changes on your bill.
Do I have to use Xero?
Yes, every package runs on Xero and your subscription is included in the fee. One system means nothing gets lost between tools, and you can see your numbers whenever you want.
I’m on QuickBooks or Sage. Who pays for the move?
We do the migration as part of onboarding: your contacts, balances and current year transactions moved into Xero and checked before your first month end. If you want full multi-year history rebuilt in Xero, we quote that separately before we start.
Am I tied into a contract?
You are committing to a year, and here is the deal in plain terms. Your fee is an annual fee for that year’s accounts and filings, paid in twelve monthly instalments so the cost is spread. You can give 60 days’ written notice at any time; if you leave part way through the year, the balance of that year’s fee falls due and we complete that year’s filings in return. At each annual fee review you can leave cleanly on 30 days’ notice with nothing further to settle. The full terms are in your letter of engagement before you pay anything.
Can you help me pay less tax?
Within your package, Gold and FD Lite include proactive planning through the year. For the bigger structural questions, selling up, holding companies, inheritance tax, leaving the UK, we will refer you to CT Private Office, our advisory practice.
